The Local Governing Board's aim is to work closely with the Multi Academy Trust, Head of School and the staff, in order to help the children at the school achieve their full potential, in a happy, caring environment.

The key elements in achieving this aim are listed below:

  • Monitoring the performance and progress of all the children at the school.
  • Supporting the staff to teach and care for the children.
  • In discussion with the Head of School, ensuring that the resources of the school are best utilised.
  • Forward planning with the Head of School to ensure that the overall performance of staff, children, and hence the school, continues to improve.

To enable the Governors to achieve these objectives, the Board is made up of key groups within the school, parents, staff, the Local Authority, the Church and the community. Some of the Governors are appointed by the Diocese, whilst others are elected.

The Board generally meets once a term the meetings and they focus on finance, staffing, buildings, health and safety and the curriculum. Individual members of the Governing Body focus on particular subjects, ie. Maths, English, ICT, etc.

Janet Havemann Bowser – Chair of Governors
Being a parent and working with children, as an Art Psychotherapist, has fuelled my interest in education.  I have recently become a Foundation Governor and have enjoyed furthering my knowledge of the educational system and child development. I believe that all the decisions made by the governing body should strive to allow every child the opportunity to fulfil their potential.  As a parent, I feel privileged to be involved in the strategic direction of the school and actively participate in the strong Catholic ethos of St Norbert’s.

Sarah Bright-Phillips - Vice Chair of Governors

As a product of Catholic Education, I am keen to support St Norbert's as a Foundation Governor.  I moved to Lincolnshire from the United States in 2013 with my husband and children.  We are parishioners at Holy Trinity in Holbeach.  My youngest son currently attends St Norbert's and my older children are at various stages in their professional and academic carers.  I studied French and Philosophy at Saint Joseph's University, a Jesuit institution in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.  Since leaving University I have been an equine professional, my husband and I currently run a small-scale horse breeding and training business.  I look forward to the opportunity to serve our school.

Christine McManamon –  Associate Member Governor
I became a Foundation Governor five years ago and in that time I have seen our School go from strength to strength recently culminating in an outstanding grade from Ofsted. I enjoy being actively involved in the school and appreciate the hard work and dedication the staff contribute to the school's on-going development.  I am also involved with the Friends of St Norbert's and enjoy getting the children and parents involved in the fundraising process. During Governor monitoring visits I have been impressed with the fantastic atmosphere and the impeccable behaviour of the children. I hope to continue as a Governor and contribute further to the School.

Simon Pick – General Foundation Governor
I am a parishioner of St Norbert’s church and have carried out the role of Foundation Governor at the school since October 2012. My daughter was a pupil at St Norbert’s school from September 2005 to July 2012.  I serve on the finance sub-committee and have a particar responsibility for pupil premium and sport funding ensuring we spend monies allocated wisely to benefit all pupils. In my professional life I am a Watch Manager in Norfolk Fire and Rescue service and have completed twenty years’ service. Being a member of a team is an essential part of my work life and it has been a privilege to be part of the St Norbert’s governing body for the past 8 years. The hard work and dedication of the governors and staff ensures that all the children receive the best start possible and are prepared for their future, irrespective of social or ethnic background.

Father James Burke – Parish Priest and General Foundation Governor
Born in Peterborough, raised up in Deeping St. James, I was ordained a priest for the Diocese of Nottingham in Deeping St. James in 1994 – it was the first ordination to the priesthood in the village since the Reformation! As a priest I have served in St. Barnabas Cathedral, Nottingham (1994-95), St. Mary’s, Derby (1995-99). I was appointed Parish Priest of St. Mary’s, New Mills (1999-2002), St. Patrick’s, Mansfield (2002-08) and here in Spalding since 2008. I have been a Foundation Governor of five schools within the Diocese. I see my position on the governing body first and foremost to provide pastoral support throughout the school community and work with the Senior Management Team to promote the Catholic ethos throughout the school.

Malgorzata Derewonko – Parent Foundation Governor

I was born and educated in Poland. After graduating from University, I came to work to England and started my family here. I am a mother of four children and all of them have been educated in St Norbert’s school, currently, two of my children are St Norbert’s pupils.  I was brought up in the Catholic faith, therefore attending my children to this school was of great importance to me. I always have been impressed with the pastoral care the school gives to all of the pupils.  I was appointed as a Foundation Governor 8 years ago as a committed Catholic parent. Being a Polish national I have a keen interest in understanding the British educational system and supporting other parents and children for whom English is an additional language. I am also supporting the school as a link governor for pupils with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND).

Based on the school’s achievements, friendly environment, and the dedication of the staff, I would recommend Saint Norbert’s Catholic Primary School to anyone.

Tom Harrison - Parent Foundation Governor

I am married to Katie and we have two children, our eldest currently attends the school. I attended Spalding Grammar School and apart from when attending university I have always lived in the area. As an adult I have worked for Sainsbury’s Supermarkets for 16 years spending the last few in Group Internal Audit. I oversee the team that audits over 2200 Sainsbury’s and Argos stores. My role also requires me to challenge the business on how it manages its risks effectively at a corporate level while supporting it set and embed actions where not. I have experience in assessing the effectiveness of governance and risk management as well as more operational activity such as Health & Safety, Food Safety and Data Protection.

On a personal level I am strong believer in the education system and understand my role as a Parent Governor is to represent the parent view point at all times to the schools leadership team.  I am really looking forward to starting and hope to add value to the school for the benefit of all children, parents and staff.

Hannah Joe - Parent Foundation Governor

I am pleased to be joining St Norbert’s School as a Parent Governor. I have a son who attends and I am continually impressed by the school and the care and attention it gives to all of its students. In terms of my background, I grew up in Spalding attending Spalding High School before moving to Sheffield to complete my degree. I then worked in Student Support at Sheffield Hallam University, supporting both academic staff and students. During my time there I also worked in the Quality and Learning, Teaching and Assessment team where I was required to ensure modules were run according to University guidelines. Since returning to Spalding I have started my own business and work part time in Marketing for a local firm. I look forward to contributing to the future of St Norbert’s and being part of the team.
